RED SOX CELEBRATE 2009 SEASON START WITH FIRST ANNUAL RED SOX SPRING TRAINING OPEN HOUSE PRESENTED BY JETBLUE AIRWAYS
Fans Invited to City of Palms Park on Saturday, February 21, for Free Family Fun including Kids Zone, Skills Clinics, and Appearances by Wally the Green Monster
The Boston Red Sox will host the first annual Red Sox Spring Training Open House presented by JetBlue Airways on Saturday, February 21, at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers, FL. The event, which will run from 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm, is free for all fans.
"The people of Lee County and Southwest Florida show us such tremendous hospitality every year. As a way of saying 'thank you' we are inviting all fans to City of Palms Park for an afternoon filled with family fun," said Todd Stephenson, Red Sox Director of Florida Operations. "They'll get unique experiences and behind-the-scenes looks at CPP - from picnicking in the outfield to taking swings in the batting cages. It will be a great way for the Red Sox and the community to celebrate the start of the 2009 Season."
The Open House will feature activities for fans of all ages. Youngsters will enjoy a special "Kids Zone" with a bounce house, obstacle course, jousting, bungee run, and face painting. Both kids and adults can participate in batting practice on the back field, hitting and base-running skills clinics, and tours of City of Palms Park. Wally the Green Monster will also make special appearances.
Complimentary cotton candy and sno-cones will be available, and discount concession offerings will include $1 sodas and $1 hotdogs. Fans are also invited to bring picnic baskets and blankets to enjoy a picnic in the outfield (no grills permitted).
At 12:30 pm, the ceremonial first pitch of 2009 Red Sox Spring baseball will be thrown out by a patient at The Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. The Red Sox are long-time partners of Children's Hospital and have helped raise more than $4.3 million through the annual Red Sox Celebrity Classic golf tournament. Now in its 16th year, the event will take place on Friday, February 20, at Forest Country Club, with current and former players including Jim Rice, Luis Tiant, Honorary Chairperson Mike Greenwell and team executives taking part.
The City of Palms Park ticket office will be open on Saturday, and tickets will be available for Spring Training games as well as select 2009 regular season games at Fenway Park. The Red Sox team store will also be open.
Fans can enter City of Palms Park through the CVS Gate on Broadway. Free parking is available.
